Wellengang
Przybojna
History
The lane is first mentioned in 1706 as "Wehlengang" and later regularly as Wellengang. Its course appears to have been determined by the route of an unnamed connecting path between Sandgrube and Schwarzes Meer (Black Sea) that already existed in 1635, before the fortification of Bischofsberg. On maps from the second half of the 18th century, the lane is shown as built over toward Schwarzes Meer. Until 1907, Wallgang was also counted as part of this lane.
The name apparently derives from the Wehle family, who demonstrably resided in Danzig in the 18th century. After the war, the lane still existed for some years under the Polish name Przybojna ("Surf Street").
