Adolf-Hitler-Straße

Marszałka Stalina

History

On 02.09.1933, all streets starting from Hindenburg Allee, running across the Free City to the Polish border — namely from the south: Hauptstraße, Pommersche Chaussee, Danziger Chaussee, Zoppoter Chaussee, Danziger Straße, Pommersche Straße, and parts of Neustädter Straße — were merged and renamed Adolf-Hitler-Straße. The former Schloß Hochwasser was also incorporated and formed house numbers 622 and 628. Apparently no single street was long enough to bear this name. After the war, the section running through Zoppot was renamed Aleja Marszałka Stalina. By 1956 that name was also passé; today the Langfuhr and Oliva sections are called ul. Grunwaldzka (Tannenberg Straße), while the Zoppot section is Aleja Niepodległości (Independence Avenue).
