Am Weißen Turm
Augustyńskiego
History
This lane was only laid out around 1914 and named in 1915 after the White Tower of the old city fortifications located here. Between the wars, it was home to the only Polish secondary school in the Free City of Danzig. After the war, the lane was first called Białowiejska (actually an error — according to Polish grammar rules it should have been Białowieska), before being renamed after 1950 to ul. Jana Augustyńskiego (after the director of the Polish secondary school who was murdered by the Nazis).
