Bärengasse

This lane, like most in the Lower Town, was created around the mid-17th century. Initially, the stretch between Abeggasse and Grabengasse was called Bärengasse (Bear Lane), while the rest was called Läwgasse. From 1763 it was called Letzter Graben (Last Ditch), to which from 1817 the neighboring Grabengasse was also counted. In 1881 it received its final name, Grüner Weg (Green Way). Since the war it has been called, in translation, Green Lane.
