Boltengasse
History
This street probably formed the eastern part of the boundary between the estates of the Pelplin Monastery (Pelpliner Hopfenbruch) lying to the north, and the Ohra Hop Marsh (Ohrscher Hopfenbruch), belonging to Danzig, to the south. The western continuation of this boundary was probably the former An der Schönfelder Brücke. The extent of this lane seems to have changed repeatedly between 1908 and 1940. While in 1908 it still ran from the Stadtgebiet to the Neuer Weg, by 1940 its extent was limited to the section from the Stadtgebiet to the Eastern Railway tracks (marked blue on the map). The name Boltengang was transferred to the continuation of this lane to the Neuer Weg (marked green on the map). The name originated in the 18th century from the Boltenbleiche, a bleaching ground "between Hauptgraben, Küperdamm, and Faulgraben" owned by Marten Bolte. Since the war, Boltengasse, Boltengang, and the Neuer Weg together form ulica Sandomierska, named after the Polish city of Sandomierz.
