Damaschkeweg
Ojcowska
History
Named after the founder and leader of the League of German Land Reformers, Adolf Damaschke. Alongside this official name, the colloquial designation "D-Zug" (express train) was in use. It arose from the wave-like form of the buildings along this street. Today this street bears the name of the Polish town of Ojców. Some time after the war, a legend circulated claiming that the houses on this street had been deliberately built so that the two undulating lines of development formed the SS symbol. However, since the buildings were constructed between 1929 and 1930, when Nazi influence in Danzig was still near zero, this is very unlikely.
