Dr. Schreber-Weg

History

Moritz SchreberThis street was named after Moritz Schreber (1808 in Leipzig – 1861 in Leipzig), a German physician and university lecturer known for his contributions to children's health and urban public health during the Industrial Revolution. He promoted physical exercise and developed "remedial exercises" for children. Schreber also influenced the creation of community gardens, known as "Schrebergärten," through his ideas on providing outdoor spaces for children. However, his strict child-rearing methods, later termed "poisonous pedagogy," became controversial. His ideas also impacted his son, Daniel Paul Schreber, whose mental illness became a subject of Sigmund Freud's analysis.

Today's name, translated, means Harvest Street.
