Faulengasse
n. e.
History
In 1357 the lane already existed but was referred to throughout the entire 14th century merely as a nameless cross-lane. In 1415 the name first appeared as "Vuelegasse." It derives from the Low German "vul," meaning "stinking." The lane thus belongs to the same category as the Stinkgänge (Stink Lanes) that appeared several times later. In 1937 it appears to have been counted as part of Ziegengasse (Goat Lane).
