Großer Stinkgang

History

As early as 1650, the section from Reitergasse to the bend at Weidengasse was called Winkelgasse (Corner Lane). The rest of this lane was a water ditch. In the 18th century, it was called Stinkgang together with part of the Langgarter Hintergasse and the Husarengasse, from which it then became Großer Stinkgang (Great Stink Alley) to distinguish it from the Husarengasse. After 1870, it was then named Kasernengasse (Barracks Lane) after the cavalry barracks located here. After the war, this lane was renamed ul. Koszarowa (a correct translation of the old name), only to disappear in the 1950s.
