Hedwigskirchstraße

Góreckiego, ks. Mariana

History

In the beginning, it was simply the Kirchenstraße (Church Street), because it led past the church. Before 1937, it was renamed Hedwigskirchstraße, since there were already several churches and the old name led to misunderstandings. From 1945, it bore the simple name ul. Parafialna (Parish Street). Only in 1952 was it renamed after the communist and collaborator of the Polish secret police Kazimierz Łowczyński, who was beaten to death by striking dockworkers in 1946. In 1990, it was renamed again after Father Marian Górecki, the priest of the Polish Catholics in Neufahrwasser between the wars.
