Herrengarten
Sadowa
History
From 1550, this street was called, together with the Husarengasse, Schottischer Damm (Scottish Dam) after the numerous Scottish traders who settled here; around 1620, it became Mattenbuder Damm. In the 18th century, this name faded away, and instead the section from Weidengasse to the barracks was counted, together with the Husarengasse, as part of the Stinkgang. The stretch from the barracks to the wall was called Kehrwiedergasse or Winkel. The name Langgarter Hintergasse came into use in 1817. From 1920, the name Herrengarten then applied.
