Hindenburg Allee

Aleja Zwycięstwa

History

Laid out by Mayor Gralath (1768–70). Since it led toward Langfuhr, it was called Langenfuhrtsche Allee on a city plan of 1822. Even before the death of Danzig's honorary citizen and Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg, the street was renamed after him on May 24, 1933. The later Am Steffenpark also originally belonged to the Große Allee. The uniform numbering of properties on this street, introduced in 1915, was adopted unchanged after the war — it is still valid today. After the war, it was called Aleja Marszałka Rokossowskiego until November 17, 1956. Today this street is called Victory Avenue in translation and thus commemorates all victories ever won.
