Kleine Fischergasse

History

Starting as a modest cross-lane at the fish market, then continuing with the Holy Spirit Hospital relocated here as its namesake, it eventually received its final name from some man named Tobias. This "sanctus Tobias" in the mention from 1456 seems rather to be an error in recollection of the older name. Until 1896, a part of the later Büttelgasse was also counted as belonging to this lane. Even today it is still called, in translation, Tobias Lane.
