Kuckuckengasse
History
This lane, through the middle of which ran a drainage ditch lengthwise, as was so common in the Lower Town, was created around 1650. The northern side was initially called Kuckuckengasse (Cuckoo Lane), while the southern side was counted as part of Pestilenzgasse (the plague or infirmary house was located here at the time). From 1763 the entire lane was counted as one. In 1883 it was renamed Gartengasse (Garden Lane), and after 1920 finally Groddeckgasse (after Lord Mayor Karl August Groddeck). The present-day name translates to Council Lane.
