Langer Gang
History
Initially known under the name Schinkelgasse, derived from a personal name, it mutated in the 17th century to Stinkgang (Stink Passage). But it did not stay that way, as the nearby Schützengang was also called the same. So this lane was summarily rechristened Kleiner Stinkgang (Small Stink Passage). Only in 1877 was it renamed again, after the building of the Lodge Eugenia that had meanwhile been erected here, to Logengang (Lodge Passage). After the Nazis banned the lodges, the lane changed its name yet again, henceforth called Langer Gang (Long Passage). After the war the lane was still listed for some years under the name ul. Masońska (Freemason's Lane) before finally disappearing.
