Portechaisengasse
Bedellina Platea, Bremensium Platea
History
Actually, this street was called Büttelgasse (Bailiff's Lane) for most of its history, after the old bailiff's office located here. Even after the bailiff's office was relocated, the name remained. Whether the even older name Bremer Gasse derives from Bremen residents living here or from a personal name is unclear. The name Portechaisengasse first appears in 1778 and probably comes from the sedan chair makers based here.
