Probenergasse
Profesorska
History
Explicitly mentioned for the first time in 1449 as the residence of the "Prevener." Then in 1515 as Probenergasse. From 1608, the name Kleine Nonnengasse appeared and ran parallel to the old designation — modified to Prüfenergasse — which disappeared after about 1700. The name seems to derive from the Latin praebenda = prebend. Probener or Prevener was the term for people who had bought their way into a convent with their wealth and, living in this street, drew a lifelong income from it. In today's terms — retirees. Today's ulica Profesorska encompasses the former Kleine Nonnengasse and Professorgasse.
