Schießstange
Kurkowa
History
The lane lay behind the shooting range for musketeers erected by the council in 1543. Since the targets at that time were attached to poles, the entire facility was also called „Schießstange“ (shooting pole). The two older designations occur only sporadically. The name Bärenwinkel referred only to the later house numbers 2–7. The present-day name contains the Middle Polish noun kur. This referred on one hand to a rooster, and on the other to the target in archery. Formerly, roosters were also used as targets.
