Schleusengasse

Borngasse

History

Around 1650, the northern side of the lane, which was traversed lengthwise by a drainage ditch, bore the names 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Schleusengasse. The southern side was correspondingly called 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Borngasse — this name then fell out of use; after 1650 both sides were named the same. The ditch running through this lane was closed off toward the Mottlau by a sluice — hence its name. After the war, it was renamed to ul. Śluza, which in Polish simply means sluice. On 29.12.1972, the eastern part was renamed after the Polish cardiologist Prof. Kieturakis.
