Schwalbengasse
History
The side of the lane facing the Mottlau, which was traversed lengthwise by a water ditch, was initially called Schwalbengasse (Swallow Lane), while the opposite side was called Zieskengasse. From 1763 onward, the entire lane was called Große Schwalbengasse (Great Swallow Lane), to distinguish it from the Kleine Schwalbengasse (Small Swallow Lane) laid out in the 18th century.
