Spendhaussche Neugasse

Stare Domki

History

The lane originated in the second half of the 17th century, after the old city wall at the Rammbau was removed and the Radaune river was channeled through the Old Town moat to the Mottlau.

Around 1700 it was initially called "Neugasse an der Radaune" (New Lane on the Radaune). On 18th-century maps it appeared simply as Neugasse (New Lane). Only since 1796 has it borne the name Spendhaussche Neugasse (Spendhaus New Lane), after the nearby Spendhaus (almshouse).
