Tischlergasse
Stolarska
History
The lane was laid out as a causeway between the Jungstadt (Young Town) and the Altstadt (Old Town) and was mentioned in 1402 under the designation "nuwe gasse geende von dem hakelwerke off unsir junge stadt" (new lane going from the Hakelwerk to our Young Town). Later it was listed under the name "nuwer tam" (new causeway), which encompassed both the Schüsseldamm and the Tischlergasse. The name Tischlergasse (Joiners' Lane) has been regularly mentioned since 1565. It was likely already in use in the 15th century, however, since the guild of Old Town joiners, which was merged with that of the Main Town in 1454, was probably already based in the lane at that time. From 1565 onward, the part located east of the Radaune Canal was called Tischlergasse after the joiners residing here.
