Tobiasgasse

History

Beginning as a modest side lane at the Fischmarkt, it continued with the Holy Spirit Hospital relocated here as its namesake, before receiving its final name from some man named Tobias. The "sanctus Tobias" in the 1456 mention seems rather to be an error in memory of the older name. Until 1896, part of the later Büttelgasse was also counted as belonging to this lane. Even today it still bears the translated name Tobiasgasse.
