Töpfergasse

Garncarska

History

In the 1456 document delineating the parishes of St. Katharinen and St. Bartholomäi, the Töpfergasse (Potters' Lane) was apparently still counted as part of Elisabethgasse. It is regularly listed in the land registers of the 16th and 17th centuries. The potters' guild is mentioned as a trade in 1526; by that time the lane was probably already named after it. The name derives from the members of the potters' guild residing here.
