Trinitatiskirchengasse
History
The oldest record of this lane comes from an entry in the hereditary register from the year 1643. In a roughly contemporaneous city map, however, it is called Antonisgasse, and that was probably its name in common usage as well. Because of its location, it was called Kirchengasse (Church Lane) toward the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, bei Graumönchen (after the color of the Franciscan friars' habits) or Graumönchen-Kirchengasse. The name St. Trinitatis-Kirchengasse appears from 1805 onward alongside the names above. Kirchengasse was also temporarily used for the later Pumpengang. The name Tönniesgasse auf der Tromme seems to refer rather to a passage near the Fleischergasse, which was also called Kirchengasse at the same time. The addition "auf der Tromme" points to a drainage ditch in this passage.
