Vergessene Gasse

History

The designation was used for the entire area from Hinter Adlers Brauhaus to the Pestilenzhaus (Plague House) located at the corner of Heveliusplatz and Am Spendhaus, and thus encompassed the later: Kleine Ölmühlengasse, Hakelwerk, Am Spendhaus, Brandstelle (in part), Weissmönchen Hintergasse, and Weissmönchen Kirchengasse. The designation was also used for some properties on the Plappergasse. The later Leitergasse was also called this at the end of the 18th century. This designation did not finally disappear until 1817. The name itself comes from the ill-reputed, God-forsaken area that one was supposed to "forget."
