Wolfshagen
n. e.
History
The old name, appearing since 1362, derives from the personal name Wolf. The second part "Hagen" actually means enclosure, and over time also the enclosed area itself. So a Herr Wolf presumably had an enclosed property here. From the 16th century onward, the name Fleischergasse (Butchers' Lane) emerged, derived from the meat stalls of the Vorstadt (Suburb) located between Katergasse and Gertrudengasse. From 1945 to 1947, the part of the lane between the Vorstädtischer Graben and St. Trinitatis-Kirchengasse was called ul. Franciszkańska (Franciscan Lane). Today's name is a correct translation of the old one. At Fleischergasse No. 69 was the Julius Sauer printing house, where a considerable portion of Danzig's postage stamps were produced.
