Am Sande

Na Piaskach

History

Older records of the name are lacking. Since 1624, it has been listed in the land register in the form "auf dem Sande" (on the sand). The expression means nothing more than a sandy spot on the bank of the Radaune – even the medieval Gudrun poem uses it in this sense when describing the battle on the Wülpensand. The former street "Am Sande" today forms, together with its extension Halbengasse, the street "Na Piaskach" – literally translated as "On the Sand."
